He was a doctor who became a revolutionary. He fought beside Castro, but after the revolution succeeded they had a falling out and he left Cuba. He became quite militarily obsessed and joined revolutions all over South America. He died in Bolivia of wounds received in a battle with govt forces.

He was motivated by huge anger at the inequities and class divisions all over South America. He came from a very middle class family himself but felt a great affinity for the poor. Many people see him as a crazy sort of terrorist  but to millions he is seen as an inspiration and a true icon of revolutionary zeal. Socialist bookshops still sell t-shirts with Che on them. I am sure there is a very good bio of him on Wikkipedia. Try to read some comments about him from both the Left and the Right so that you may get a more balanced picture

Hippie Girl has Che's death wrong.

He did not die of wounds - he was captured alive. He pleaded for his life to the Bolivians, saying "I am Che; I'm worth more alive than dead." The Americans present did not want to kill him, but a Bolivian officer pulled out a pistol and shot him out of hand.

Che's own writings reveal him as a sadistic type who got a rise out of killing. In the Cuban revolution, he had many killed simply because they could not prove their innocence.  When his own turn came, he could not face it - he begged on his knees for his life.

A pathetic character. However, if he could now see the place where he died, I doubt he'd be quite content, or quite displeased. The locals have made a shrine of it and worship him as, of all things, a Christian saint who died for God and the church.
