Does anyone own either the Polish p 64 or the Hungarian f*g 63 in 9x18 (or other models in .32 or other calibers)? I was thinking about getting one of these, since I am looking for a small inexpensive semi auto. I know I could get a bersa for about $300 but I'd rather spend $200 or less cause I have other expenses right now and also this is a gun that will be carried in my car and I want a cheap tool that I wont mind too much if it gets stolen. Unfortunately I hear these guns have an atorcious trigger pull and other problems, so I'd like to hear with someone with first hand experience with these guns if its worth it or not.

  1. I had a PA63

Don't pay more than $170 for one

Out of the box they totally suck

But a $10 set of Wolf springs from Mak.com, some light Dremel work on the trigger serrations and a $20 set of flat panel grips will make it a good gun

Of course you can just add $30 and buy a Bersa to begin with

That sucks they were the best source for Mak parts

  2. Honestly the PA-63 in my book is an unacceptable handgun. It is painful to shoot without a lot of gun smith work and then it's simply below passable in reliability and accuracy.

I own several real Makarov pistols and the bargain here is the Bulgarian when you can find one. Also very nice are the Czech CZ-82 and CZ-83 pistols, which are wholesaling for $199 in losts of places. I got one that was refinished, changed the springs and have shot nearly 500 rounds of 9x18 through it without fail and with remarkable accuracy for a small pistol. In my opinion, the best deal going in small pistols now.

  3. I got a Bulgarian Makarov in 9x18mm in excellent condition for $100 out the door last winter at a local pawn shop. It shoots good groups, as every Makarov I own does, and operates flawlessly as they all do too.

  4. I have an f*g pa63, and i wish i didn't. well made but poorly finished.

Makarovs are well made but getting more expensive and harder to find since clinton banned their importation.

Look at the cz 82. i have one and it is one of the most well made, well finished pistols i have ever owned. double action is lite and crisp, sights are good for a small pistol, and it holds 12 rounds of 9x18. the one i have came with an issue holster, (ugly doesn't even begin to describe it!), and extra magazine and the cleaning rod and lanyard. price, $200.00.

The 9x18 is ballistically between the 380 and the 9mm parabellum, making it a good low end self defense round.

For a little more money you can buy the cz83, same gun but chambered in 380acp and/or 32 acp.

Vangion, mak.com is going out of business. just an fyi, bro.
