He will be 16 in about a month and I got a band to play!!! But..I am worried about food and decorating. I need cheap ...quick...simple ideas to get me through the day with out having to be standing over a stove. I want to enjoy his family and friends and of course the band. I want to be able to have a majority of the work done the day before so all I have to do is set up and be ready to scream SURPRISE"!!!

Any help will be most appreciated. People think I am putting to much pressure on myself especially since we are in such a bad financial state but since his dad was disabled 2 1/2 yrs ago I feel like he has been getting the short end of the stick. He is an awesome kid and deserves to be shown he is not on the sidelines and how much we love and appreciate him.

  1. My 16 yr old son was more into his own thing and really didnt want me doing a party for his birthday.  I think your putting too much pressure on yourself.   Let him pick out a place to eat and take him out for his birthday with you and your husband and his siblings.  Forget all the hype and stuff.

  2. I think the best idea on decorating is to see if you can be sneaky and have a couple of creative friends of his decorate... Or there all sorts of fun things if you can think of a theme. Guy spa might go over well and be pretty funny (Just make sure there are girls there too:-) I can give tons of ideas for this if you like it. It can be really creative and cheap...

About food - what kind of theme are you thinking? Think of a theme. I can help if you have ideas on a theme. :-)

  3. an easy chicken recipe.

take a bag of chicken beasts out of the freezer, and thaw them.

then put some olive oil in to a pan, and start frying the chicken in cracked pepper and oregano.

  4. i think that this is sweet idea. well you could always grill hamburger and hot dogs or brats and . make taco dip and chips, or salsa. cheese and crackers, veggies and dip,

don't go over board. you could also do sloppy joes.

  5. Make your own nacho bar - beans or chili, some cheese, a big bag of chips, onions, olives, sour cream, whatevers on sale ( check online with one of those coupon sites) - then you just need plates & napkins - no utensils! - or make tacos same idea.

make mexican chocolate cookies for dessert

As for decorations -  start saving your glass food jars , get some spray adhesive & tissue paper, crumple the paper glue the paper to the outside of the jar,  drop a candle in the jar, make some nice outdoor lanterns - cheap , cheap, cheap -.

use the rest of the tissue to make cut outs or something.

have a good time at your party -

  6. I think you can't go wrong with Pizzas. Have them delivered and you can get some good deals with coupons. Get like Pepperoni, Cheese, and Combination.

Chips and dip. Kids that age aren't into salads that much so if you do salad just do it for the adults.

Then cupcakes are fun and cheap. Kids love these.

Streamers, balloons and have the kids help out.
