Cheap Dynamo?

I'm looking for a kit to make a basic Dynamo. Not one that has to attach to a bike or anything, just the basic components. Anyone know where I can get one please?

  1. By dynamo, you are specifying that the output is dc but there is a massive range and you need to specify the voltage and current (power) you require from it. Most motors work as a generator if rotated.

The components are specific to each machine so you cannot really go and by a bunch of bits to make a dynamo. The only extra bits if you bought one for a bike would be the mounting kit.

The site below sells pretty much everything if you want to search it.

  2. Get a motor from a scrapped treadmill. Most of them have good DC permanent magnet motors in the 1hp to 1.5hp range. Higher rpms means higher voltage.

These aren't good for every application, but are easy and inexpensive to acquire. And fun to experiement with. I made a bike-powered generator to recharge my deep-cycle battery in emergencies. The battery powers my ham radio.

    Update:

Ok, so it is a pricing excercise...you can buy replacement motors for treadmills and electric scooters online. These are new and not scrap. You can also buy wind turbines. Lots of good info here:
