Cheap Homeschooling?

I know that some of my family have used a Christian based homeschool, which would send them workbooks with instructions every so often. I was wondering if anyone knows of a homeschool that is like that, but not Christian based, and if it is relativley cheap.

  2. The following site might help you study up, I suggest the website:

    http://www.free-ed.net/free-ed/

I'm helping my husband get his GED, and we're using this class to prepare for it. I'm actually going to try the CLEP (College Equivalence), and am using the class as a refresher, since I've been out of school for seven years.

They have a class that is very comprehensive, starting with the most basic of concepts and working the way up from there. They also have other areas where you can just focus on a certain subject. They even have "degree studies" for health care and others.

They don't distribute degrees, but they are free classes that will greatly help you prepare for your tests and schooling. And is is all online, for you to do at your own schedule.

  3. Calvert School -- not sure what their rates are, but they've been around a long time and have a great reputation.

The American School of Correspondence -- secular and VERY inexpensive.

  4. K12 has virtual public schools in many states.

If you don't have the option in your state, you can purchase it yourself (Consumer Direct) and use it as an independent homeschooler.

  5. Try unschooling.  You use whatever you can find for your curriculum, which is based on what the family decides they are interested in studying.

Interest based learning can be very cheap or very expensive.  You buy what you can for what you want to do.

Of course there are plenty of packaged curricula out there as others have suggested, including public school home study programs like k-12 which are of course paid for by tax dollars therefore cheap for people to use.

    Good luck :D

  6. K12.com is a great program that is free. It's not available in some states though! :(
