Stayed at a place called Louis Jubilee Sanitorium which is under the management of the local authorities. Far away from the Mall Road, down a winding strip, but sprawling and with character. It used to be a Sanitorium a long long time ago. We were on a shoestring budget, a bunch of college students, so we didn't mind. Also there are many small guest houses, like B & B's......but whatever u do....dont give in to the touts who will surround you as soo as u get off at Darjeeling. Get your bookings done from legit tourism centre in Kolkata. google with West Bengal tourism and go to the govt sponsored site, which will give you the details of their local contacts. Stay anywhere....eat your breakfast at Keventer's and high tea at Glennary's......for dinner, there are many choices.....but dont roam about after 7 PM. Better be safe indoors.
