Question:

Cheap SLR camera? ....?

Basically I need to buy a cheap SLR camera that is capable of using a slow shutter speed (I have no idea about cameras at all so I don't if it is standard for SLR to have this function or not). Also it has to be digital.

Really appreciate your advice :)

Thanks :)

  1. nikon D40

  2. Yes. All SLRs will be able to take exposures as slow as 30 seconds. If you need slower, you can buy a remote and put the camera on "blub" setting. Meaning that as long as you hold in the button on the remote, the shutter will stay open.

I recommend going with a Nikon camera. They are great, but cheap. In particular, I recommend the Nikon D40. It is very inexpensive, but amazing for the price.

$467.00 at amazon. Im sure it will fit your needs.

Good luck! Please read the D40 review in the sources.

  3. They aren't really that cheap.. unless you consider $500 cheap. You might try the Olympus E420 or Nikon D40.

  4. If you're lucky the cheapest SLR you'll find is the Canon Rebel XT. They've now been replaced by the newer XS so I've heard of people finding the body for as low as $300US.

  5. Yeah, get the Canon 400d.  It's cheaper now since they released the 450d already.  Or check out the Canon 1000d, best for starters as well.

  6. Hey! The most affordable DSLR on the market right now (I believe) is the Nikon D40. It's a good camera and the ISO goes up to 1600 for low light settings. This is good for slow exposure. All SLRS can do slow shutter so that shouldn't be any issue.
