  1. easy, don't stay at the Gold Coast. Caravan parks at places like Kingscliff, Chinderah, Cabarita etc are far cheaper, much more family friendly and still very close to the coast for theme parks etc(Chinderah to the centre of surfers would be able 15 mins drive in normal traffic). You can even stay more inland for possibly cheaper places(eg Murwillumbah etc).

  2. You need to get in touch with some of the real estate agents on the gold coast, they do houses for short term and holiday rentals for big families like yours, I can think that would be your best bet as most high rises only have three bedrooms and you will be all cooped up with cabin fever.  Google Real Estate Agents like Ray White Gold Coast, or L J Hooker Gold Coast rentals etc, at least that will give you somewhere to start.  You may get a fab place with 4 bedrooms and a pool and BBQ area.  Best of luck to you Super Mum!

  3. This is a great inexpensive apartment complex. It is basic, and a not in thick of Surfers but at Main Beach which is close enough.

Although you might need to take 2 rooms, but I found them to be helpful and a great and comfortable place to stay.

  4. Avoid Southport, Palm Beach and Runaway bay. (maybe Miami
