  4. Club Hotel Venice is very nice.  You can book a room from hostelworld.com or through ryanair and get a very good deal.  They're a bit out of the historic city (it's in Mestre), about 15 minutes by bus to the Piazzale Roma.  Buses come frequently and there is a stop right out the hotel door.  The last bus from Piazzale Roma is at 10 pm, and its a bit of a walk back, but Club Hotel has free breakfast and is 3 star, we got a double room for 50 EUR a night in May.  It's very cheap and safe.

Firenze and Rome we stayed at hostels, you can send me a message if you want more info.  If you're planning a sidetrip to Sorrento, I recommend Hotel Linda (or Pensione Linda).
