  1. G'day,

As an international students, you can go to any big banks, bring your passport with your student visa in it, and a copy of your e-COE.  They will open a student account for you which does not have monthly account fee and no minimum balance.

The reason I recommend the big banks b'cos their ATM are everywhere in Australia.  You can access your money from any ATM's, but there are extra charge if you access different bank's ATM.

    The big banks are:

    ANZ

    CBA (Commonwealth Bank)

    Westpac

    NAB

As customers (and ex-customers) of these banks, I usually recommend ANZ bank as the access is easy using ATM, phone or internet banking.

Also sometimes if you study in uni, some of the banks do have branch in campus. I reckon use the opportunity if you have one.

Hope this helps.  Good luck and welcome to Australia.

  2. I go with Thought Bandit. I use Bendigo Bank as well, as they are looking after customers and not fixated with profits

  3. I like the Bendigo Bank, they are friendlier than some of the others and tend to charge you for the services you actually use rather than lots of monthly account keeping fees.

Here is a link to their web site.

  4. Try Bank West & Bank of Queensland.

  5. Don't overlook a credit union. It may have cheaper fees than a bank. But service areas may be limited which can be okay if you aren't planning on traveling much.
