  1. nikon D40

  2. Get a Polariod camera digital and it's nice but cheap.

  3. Canon A-590 is a good choice. It is 8MP with a 4x zoom. I have one at it is nice. About 179 bucks.

  4. the i phone

  5. Samsung S85

    5x zoom

    8.2 MP

ISO 1600 (which is useless on most compact cameras anyway)

    640x480 video recording

Super macro - as close as 1cm picture taking

Full manual controls except manual lens control

    Good battery life

    Good sized

    Looks good

    Around $150 AUD.

  6. Nikon CoolPix camera sounds great for you.  On sale you can get it $120.

I have one it's awesome. Check it out:

  7. Depends on what you call cheap.  I went to Buzzillions and searched for the top rated cameras for "outdoors" and narrowed to <$500.

This Canon Powershot S3 is the top rated

There are sample shots from the reviewers, so you can see what they are taking.

    Good Luck!

  8. Go for any of the Canon Powershot cameras.  They range for about $180-$300.  If you are on a budget, even the less expensive ones are great.  They take sharp pics and great video.

The Powershot SX100 has 10x zoom and costs about $220.

If you don't need that much zoom, the Powershot A720 is actually a better camera, which 6x zoom and costs only about $190.  That should be plenty of zoom, since it has 8 megapixels and shoots very clear pictures, allowing you to "zoom" a little more by cropping when you edit.

If budget is a huge issue, the Powershot A470 with 3.4x zoom is only about $120.  Picture quality may be a little less than the others, but it is still a tremendous camera.  It is one of the cheapest cameras you can buy and is a great value.

Don't buy a dSLR (such as the Nikon D40 or the Canon Rebel) if you want to take video.  Those cameras take excellent pictures but don't have video capability.

Whatever oneyou choose, have fun and good luck.
