  3. Princes Street, the main shopping street in Edinburgh, doesnt really have any cheap hotels, ranging from the five start Caledonian and Blamoral to the more reasonable Royal British. But within 10 minutes walk you have a wide choice such as the Premier Travel Inn on Lauriston Place, Best Western across from it or a wide choice of reasonably priced guest houses and B&B's.

The layout of Edinburgh is such that the accommodation in Laursiton place is more convenient for all the tourist attractions in the Old Town which is a bit divorced by height and distance from Princes Street to the North. Our own guest house is for example the closest to the Castle, but there are a number closer than our 7-10 minute walk from Princes Street.

  4. Well apparently there's 116 alternatives here in or within walking distance  !!

  5. I was walking past the belford hotel the other day and noticed it has converted into a travellodge. It is a lovely location - right next to the water of leith and the gallery of modern art.

10 minute walk from charlotte square in the west end.

15 minute walk to princes street.

    Have fun.
