Go to www.farecast.com and enter the place you want to leave from and the place you want to go to, on what dates.  There is a simple form to do this.  Then click "enter" and it will search available flights and rates for you.  You can choose Economy; the further ahead you do this the lower the rates might be.  This system tends to offer cheaper rates than most of the so-called discount sites I have found.

Try Priceline as they offer great deals on flights. You can choose your own airline, date and flight. You can save more with Name Your Price, check internet for details.

My suggestions: compare airlines, flight times, dates, is it cheaper to fly certain time of the day, weekends or during the week (it might make a difference leaving a few days earlier or later) and non-stop flights.

Allegiant Air actually has more stations than Southwest now, and some very cheap fares.  http://www.allegiantair.com  Another good place to check is http://www.bookingbuddy.com because it checks everwhere else for you, but the low-fare airlines like Southwest and Allegiant you have to check individually because they don't play with other booking sites.

******Southwest is probably the cheapest and the best airline to fly.  I fly several times a year and I enjoy Southwest more than the others.  I've flown SW, United, Delta, American Northwest and Spirit within the past year!  Southwest is the cheapest and the best.
