Question:

Cheap surfboard for a beginner?

I had a surf lesson on Cape Cod, and I absolutely loved it. I'm looking for a decent board- it ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT have to be new- at a decent price. I know that they can be really expensive- or is $500 expensive for a surfboard? I really don't know. I saw some nice ones on craigslist, but, out of curiosity, is there anywhere that's cheaper? Anyways, I'm a 5'5" 140lb beginner looking for an uncomplicated board. What would you suggest, o citizens of yahoo?

  1. some surf shops u can find used surfboards.they run from $50 AND UP.

  2. 500.00 is not expensive for a new handmade surfboard. The nice thing about craigslist is that you can get garage sale prices; you can always negotiate. The question is, which board would be right for your weight and surf break? Which board were you learning on that was fun? Best advice is to go to a surf shop in the area that you will be surfing and see what they recommend. Write down the dimensions. You can price shop from there, whether it be craigs list, the surf shop, or local newspaper ads. Once you find the type of board that's right for you, take your time in choosing. Look for a clean, like new, handmade in USA, board. And you can find them in shops, or through classifieds, for 300.00. And if you are acquainted with anyone knowledgeable about surfing, bring them with you to look over the board. 300.00 may seem like a lot of money, but with proper care the board will last you for many years. I still have a primo condition 1980's Ocean Avenue board.
