Cheap train fares?

I was told there was a service from Edinburgh to London that offers cheap travel if you book in advance?

Does anyone have any info on this?

not exactly, but check out one way fares as well as return - one way can sometimes be much cheaper - ie less than half.

Some one has suggested Virgin Trains, but they don't run from Edinburgh to London. The furthest you can get on Virgin is Doncaster. Also, whilst some Megatrain tickets are available, they don't cover the full journey (as, again, they as Virgin tickets)

The company covering the full route is GNER. They do offer some very cheap deals - you will need to look at their website and be very persistent.  I'm on their email list and keep getting told about wonderful offers, but can never find them when I check! It might, in fact, be better to go to Waverley and ask at the travel centre. The trouble with the very cheap deals is that they are limited in number and are only relevant on a few services - but it looks good for the company to shout about them!

The GNER advanced purchase tickets from Edinburgh to London range from £14.05/ £24.50/ £32.00/ £38.00.

And Virgin Trains advanced purchase tickets from Edinburgh to London range from £17.50/ £28.50/ £38.50

All prices dependant when you book

Advance purchase (AP) tickets are only sold once the train is confirmed and there are only a limited number of AP tickets available per train.

The varying price is dependant on how far in advanced you book your ticket. Most train companies AP tickets are available up to 8 weeks in advance of the journey. The sooner you book the cheaper it is.

Additionally if you book online with GNER you will also get a 10% discount!

When will people listen, once again, there is no such thing as a return ticket on the british rail network, you will be told to buy two singles, one very cheap and suprise suprise the other twice the price of the first, unless you buy one of the train operators "ON LINE specials purchased with a credit card" (HELLO OUT THERE, NOT EVERYONE HAS A CREDIT CARD) these so called specials are cheap if you can get hold of one and do not mind traveling after 0900 and return after 1900, totaly bloody usless.

Ok someone will say I have a gripe against the operators ok I admit it, but see if you can justify this, ST Pancras to Derby Return (special) valid after 0900hrs seven days a week return AFTER 1900hrs, price 19.50 per adult valid for one day only, or an ordinary open single of 78 pounds, valid one month, this was a Sunday morning, after a 12 hour flight from China, needless to say I did not want to buy the bloody train, just get home, National Express coach from Victoria 35.50 RETURN to Heathrow.

I used to travel by train all the time, it is a great way to travel, but since privatisation, prices have flown through the roof, so guess how I travel now, thank goodness for the airport coach.

I think its called an 'APEX' or 'Super saver. Ask at any rail ticket office.

yes its on the virgin website and if you book up earlier enough it can be as cheap 12.50 single,enjoy your trip.
