will be travelling from Switzerland to Rome in September. Can someone please suggest if it is cheaper to take a train from Interlaken to Rome or from Luzern to Rome and what would be the suggested route. I have heard that buying tickets for different stations falling within the route is cheaper than buying one single ticket for the entire route. So can some one please suggest how can I get from interlaken/lucerne to rome in the cheapest possible train (or any overnight train).

  1. The EN313 Euronight train goes from Zurich to Rome. The connections from Interlaken or Luzern are easy: one train change with little time waiting, and you don't even have to go to another platform to catch the next train.

    Swiss National Rail website:   http://www.sbb.ch/

From Interlaken, take the train to Spiez, then after a 12 minute wait, catch the EN313 train to Rome:

dep   Interlaken Ost 23:01 platform 7,

    arr Spiez 23:22 platform 2

    ICE 998 Intercity-Express

    dep  Speiz 23:34   platform 2

    arr  Roma Termini   09:12

    EN 313 EuroNight

From Luzern, take the train to Olten, then after a 20 minute wait, catch the EN313 train to Rome:

    dep  Luzern 21:07 platform 3B,

    arr Olten  21:52 platform 9

    RE 3592 Regional-Express

    dep Olten  22:09 platform 9,

    arr  Roma Termini   09:12

    EN 313 EuroNight
