I have seen many website but can't find anything that would be of use to me.

I am traveling From Edinburgh to London Luton on the 1st of May 2007 and returning on the 10th of May to Edinburgh from London Luton.

I have been told you can get very cheap train fares if you book in advance but so far all I can see is fares for £300+

Can someone tell me where I can get them good prices or even see if you can get a good price, Need seats on them days for 3 adults 2 kids (2 - 4) and one infant (18 month)

  1. I've checked www.thetrainline.com for you. You only have to pay for the three adults as the children all being under 5 will travel free. You need to buy a single ticket each way at £82.50, a GNER Standard Advance 2. It is far more expensive to book a return, which, as you say, will be over £300. You can buy the tickets via thetrainline, or you can contact GNER direct.

  2. Once again I tell you there is NO SUCH thing as cheap train travel in the UK unless you book ONLINE and you have to be lucky.

However you have one thing going for you the little ones are under five so they travel free, go to either GNER web site or trainline.com for any offers.

    Enjoy your trip.

  3. hey there go to nationalrail.co.uk and look about getting a family railcard.

You be able to save like 1/3 on the tickets for the family.

have a look at moneysavingexpert.com under travel too.

  4. It may be an idea to buy advance tickets to Kings Cross and then seperate tickets to Luton. Also if you register on the GNER site they will email you when the advance tickets go on sale (usually on Thursday mornings) - An advance ticket from Edinburgh to London is about £10 each way.

Also the kids may travel for free if they are under a certain age (it is either 3 or 5 - can't remember which one)
