my fiance and i will be having a small wedding, we are thinking 50ish. i've called a few banquet halls and it seems like we are going to be spending much more than we would like. ive done hours of research online and have checked places out that ive heard by word of mouth. we dont want to go to a lions club or an elks club (the drop leaf ceilings are just too cheesy for me) but where can we go, thats not outside, afforable, and would look nice? i think we have considered making the food ourselves to save money too... i dont know, i just need to do this as cheap as possible, but still be special, and reflect us. someone, please help!

  1. If you're thinking 50ish people...why not try to have it at your house.  Backyward?  You're going to make your own food...so this would be convenient and cheap.

  2. You should not use the word CHEAP to describe your wedding or anything associated with it.  Your wedding day is supposed to be a very special day in your life NOT something that is measured in $$$ and has very little meaning to you.

If you wish to have an inexpensive or budget wedding then get married in the morning and then follow it with a breakfast or brunch.  Breakfast is ALWAYS the least expensive meal you can serve your guests plus you will not have to serve any alcoholic beverages except a champagne toast to the Bride and Groom.

Other cost saving ideas . .

Only have a Maid of Honor and Best Man.  You will save on bouquets and thank you gifts.

Only have a "one flower bouquet."  All white roses . . all pink carnations . . or all yellow daisies.  Additional flowers mean additional dollars.

There are many banquet halls or hotels or restaurants that give Friday night or Sunday afternoon discounts.

Get married at sunset and then follow it with a "cake and punch reception."  Just make sure your guests know that your reception is "a dessert only" reception.

  3. I’m in St. Louis.

The first thing I figured out is that it’s hugely less expensive to get married on a Friday instead of a Saturday. If that’s a possibility, DO IT.

We had our ceremony & reception at the Randall Gallery. It’s not so well known, but is definitely worth the trip to check it out.  It was actually less expensive than other reception-only venues we looked at and provides a higher level of service.

Mark, the owner, is anal in a good way. He runs a quality show and is extremely detail oriented .He was like a wedding planner without the added cost of hiring someone extra.
