Cheaper vacation: road trip or flying?

I live in San Jose and was thinking of going on a road trip to the Grand Canyon and Sedona, AZ; however, because of the gas prices it might be pretty expensive. Would it just be cheaper to fly to Hawaii for a few days instead? Any advise would be most appreciated.

We went to the east coast, from the west coast -  I purchased for $99 each way to Louisville Kentucky  . But that's not the east coast you say. You are 100% right. But with a little research I found a very inexpensive luxury car rental out of Louisville that was only $287 total for 15 days. Then stayed in KOA camping cabins.

How about Arizona here is our itinerary.

We did it in an RV but flying to Flagstaff or Phoenix and renting a car would work just fine maybe better.(try renting a PRIUS -  more money less gas)

Day 1 San Diego – Black Canyon Arizona-Yuma Az. Museums - Yuma Prison

Day 2 Black Canyon – Flagstaff, AZ via Sedona Church rock - Montezuma’s Castle

Day 3 Meteor Carter, Walnut Canyon Indian ruins, Sunset Crater, Indian Ruins 9pm – Cameroon, AZ

Day 4 Grand Canyon, Dinner at Williams Arizona Train Depot, overnight in Kingman Arizona

Day 5 Kingman to London Bridge via Oatman, AZ - Lounge at the lake Wander through the London Bridge shops

Day 6 London Bridge to San Diego

Road Trip. But then again gas prices will rise and fall depending on what state you are in. But road trips are alot more fun. You get to stop were ever you want with no one telling you were to go. TAKE THE ROAD TRIP

your roadtrip would probably be a lot cheaper.  unless you drive a huge car. check out fuelcostcalculator.com  it will let you enter your car make model and year and where you are going and give you an exact amount the gas will cost. (yes you can do mulitple locations).  That should answer your question.
