  1. Try UPS or one of that type of firms for sending packages. Books can be heavy and since the postal office works by weight as well as size, I'd say one of those firms would be your safest bet. Don't try to bring them in your luggage (also because of the weight) if you're traveling by plane, since you'd pay more on excess bagage than you would on the fee for UPS or whichever.

    Good luck with the move!

  2. Containers are pretty big even the 20 foot containers are big. There are two sizes 40ft and 20ft.  40ft is train car or semi sized. The 20ft is half of that obviously like those Pod things for storage-- just to give you a size estimate.  Depending what what "stuff" entails 20 ft maybe good for you. I don't think you will need a container for just books unless you have a small library and I really do mean an actual small library.  There are plenty of companies that would be happy to crate your books for international shipping, in fact they will be thrilled about it due to weight and/or odd size.  Cheapest way to do this is to find a frieght forwarder, rather than an international moving company that would offer to pack and all that for you.  Moving companies have lots of extras available and demand to be paid generously.  Freight Forwarder can generally make crates if needed. Most will bring a container to your location, depending on if there is room to drop it off and home owner association rules --if any.  Cost for container drop vary with location.  A container or large crate is definitely going by sea as it's cheapest so your proximity to where it will ship from will also determine costs i.e. you live some place that is land locked then you would most likely have to pay whatever it would take to get your container to the dock.

Freight companies do not pack, so you would have to do it yourself.  Do make a list of what you have packed for insurance purposes and/or so you know you got all of your stuff back of course.  Shop around for a good one in your area.
