What's the cheapest place to live in Australia??

Cheap for housing, food etc??

Somewhere you can get the benfits of living in Australia but not need big money to live comfortably.

Please don't post any of the big cities, as i have no doubt that although they are nice. They are not the cheapest.

Thanks

  1. I'd suggest the small towns within about 40 minutes of Hobart, Hobart already has the lowest housing cost of any of the capitals and town like Cygnet and New Norfolk are even cheaper still but within easy reach of services and jobs. Also local fresh food is much cheaper than the mainland. Groceries and petrol are on average more expensive but not drastically so

  2. Housing might be more expensive in the city but you can earn more and pay less for transport and food. You can live in country and remote places for cheaper housing but you might have trouble getting a job and you pay more for petrol and food (because of the cost of freight). Probably the only way you'll be better off not in the city is if you have the resources and time to be reasonably self sufficient and don't have to drive much. I choose city.

  3. Sydney! (not in the city)
