  1. Ive done it a few times before and the train is the cheapest, most efficient and fastest way to get there.

Do yourself a favor and take the EUROSTAR train and NOT the local train or it will take you forever and the seating arrangements are terrible.

On the Eurostar you can get second class and its nice. Make sure you stamp your train tickets BEFORE you get on the train, theres a little machine at the end of the track where you can do it, you'll see people doing it. If you dont do this before you get on the train then when the conductor comes into your car looking to mark your ticket you will get a fine if it's not stamped beforehand. I know, its a stupid rule but believe me it happened to me a few times....Ive lived in Italy for 5 years.

  2. Hi!

    I write from Milan, Italy.

the cheapest way from rome to milan, after the car is surely the train.

Train arrives in milan in 5-6 hours. It depends if you take an eurostar (very fast) or a regional, normal train.

Airplane is not convenient if you don't find a low cost (ryanair, easy jet exc...)

Rent a car I think is the same as US, we have the same companies;o) like Heartz.

    I vote for the train.

Our official train website is www.trenitalia.it

In Milan you will arrive surely at the Central Station (stazione centrale) and there you will have the metro (underground) for all the destinations.

  3. the train is definitely the chepest and easiest way to travel.

  4. The train costs 45 to 56 euros.  The 45e. train takes 5 hrs. and 50 minutes and the 56e. trains take 4 1/2 hrs.

There are promotions you can click on and see how to get an "Amica fare"  Click on the word "Promotions".  Also you can get the prices by clicking on the cart like you're going to buy it.  Pick "standard" fare unless you find you can get an "Amica" fare (Read their stipulations.)

    HEre's the website:

  5. Definitely by train; not only the cheaper but also the faster way.

A Eurostar train is considered the "standard" way between Milan and Rome, today; though there still are some other options, longer time and lower price (often less comfort, too), like some InterCity ("IC" on the schedule).

Please note trains designated as "Alta velocità" ("A"), high seed, are actually the same as Eurostar, now, both about time and price, because tracks are not yet ready for high speed (except Milano-Bologna segment, on that route), works are in progress.
