Question:

Cheapest way to heat a home: gas, propane, or electric?

I'm sure there are many exceptions; I'm just looking for a 'ballpark' estimates for an average home. thx

  1. I have wood heat and the cost for me is 0.  But this is due to where I live.... there are several loggers close by from 0-40 miles.  when they get a load of logs ready to haul in they trim some off the length to make them whatever size they need.  As a result there is always wood anywhere from 6" to 2' left.  I asked them what they do with this wood and they said usually they just leave it..... so now I go get this wood (still have to have it split) but now the only cost I incur are keeping wood stove up.


  2. $5 if you buy some matches and light it on fire.

  3. Usually natural gas is the cheapest followed by propane and the most expensive it electric. The cheapest of any would be a wood burning fireplace.
