Cheapest way to homeschool?

I'm not asking for me, but for a friend.

If its a free virtual school - K12 and connections academy won't work for Texas, where we live.

We'd prefer a virtual school or any sites that could help her with homeschooling without having to pay alot of money. But also any programs that you know that don't really cost alot will be helpful.

She appreciates any help!

  1. The following site might help you study up, I suggest the website:

I'm helping my husband get his GED, and we're using this class to prepare for it. I'm actually going to try the CLEP (College Equivalence), and am using the class as a refresher, since I've been out of school for seven years.

They have a class that is very comprehensive, starting with the most basic of concepts and working the way up from there. They also have other areas where you can just focus on a certain subject. They even have "degree studies" for health care and others.

They don't distribute degrees, but they are free classes that will greatly help you prepare for your tests and schooling. And is is all online, for you to do at your own schedule.

  2. She can simply do her own thing at home. It doesn't have to be through a program. Her local library probably has a ton of texts she could use, the local homeschool group might have people with second-hand items to sell, etc.

  4. The cheapest way is to use the library and free or cheap online resources as much as possible and only buy what you need to fill in the gaps that you can't meet in those places.

There are a lot of materials in every subject at the library.  You can often even get workbooks complete with answer keys.  (Just write the answers on notebook paper so you don't damage the library book).

You can also get a lot of material free on-line by Googling the topic you need to know about.  For instance, "Earth Science" in Google will yiled a lot of educational sites that focus on Earth Science.

Go here for an outline to follow while putting together your studies:

There are also courses available for free from the following website.  http://www.free-ed.net  .They do not keep a record, so just like you would have to do if you taught a child at home from a book, you would need to keep your own record of grades and transcripts for the courses you take.
