Cheapest way to send money to Egypt?

What is the cheapest way to transfer money to Egypt? My Dad wants me to buy contacts while I'm here in Egypt and wants to transfer the money for them from the USA insha'Allah.

I did this last year as well with Western Union and it was kind of expensive according to my Dad. Is there a cheaper service I could use that is relatively fast as well? My friend told me about a card the money gets put on and then is mailed to you, but that takes a long time to reach you sometimes, and I'm only here for 3 more weeks insha'Allah. :(

  1. A bank transfer usually takes a week

Western union is you best shot

  2. Just do a money transfer. It is available in any bank in the US. You must have a USD-based account in any bank in Egypt though. The cost of the transfer should be between 35-40$. I don't know if this is more or less expensive than Western Union.

  3. MHIS is correct from what I've experienced (I've wired $ from the USA to egypt and received a wire quickly from the states to egy).  also, another alternative if u r an avid ebayer u have to have a pay pal acct.  so if you both have paypal accounts that are linked to your US bank accounts it's a lot cheaper than dealing w/ western union/wiring fees.  Sending $1500 cost around $50 with my us bank to an egyptian bank.  just go to an atm and pull out what u need from that particular linked pay pal acct.  contacts, yeah, I also always buy them when visiting.  glasses are something I come back w/ as well since I lose them constantly, so maybe u should bring his glasses prescription along, too.

  4. Money Gram in all NSGB (National Socitiee General Bank .. sorry for spelling mistakes as i am not very good in French :)) bank branches .. It is similar to Western Union and much cheaper but i am not sure if you should have an account in there or not

call 140 to inquire about thier phone number and call them for details ... OR visit any branch before 2pm

Your father can send you a debit card from the States (I , once , got one called IKobo) and you can with draw from ant ATM machine and it has an account on the internet in case your Dad wants to transfer more money from his credit card ... with DHL it takes about 5 days max i think

Paypal could be a good solution but i think it should be connected to a bank account here

Try Money Gram ... i think it is the easiest way

    Regards

  5. I really think that their is any other way, but I have some questions about the usa if you dont mind me asking.
