Question:

Check Engine Light in 2003 Dodge Neon Listing of possibilities.

I've checked the gas, gas cap, it starts up and runs fine. I drove about 100 miles today and it had no problems. It shakes a little bit though and for the most part the gas mileage was unaffected. Could someone list me the possible reasons for the light to go on? Could it be the oil/oil filter or air filter?

  1. http://www.autozone.com/in_our_stores/fr...

    The best place to start:

They can connect to your cars computer and read the codes stored, and give you possible causes. it is a free service, other parts houses may also offer it, call ahead!

    Or:

You can read the codes using the flash method: http://www.troublecodes.net/neon/

    causes?

    Good luck!

  2. like maybe you left your gas cap loose or you need an oil change

  3. check engine... any fluids low any air or fuel filters bad gas a spark plug a wire a gas cap yes... try this go to autozone and ask them to scan it will help you run down what it might be.... free

  4. Bring your car into a Pep Boys or auto parts supplier most places will scan your car for you for free. It could be something very simple, but prevention is a good idea.

  5. Cycle the ignition key on-off-on-off-on within five seconds, don't crank engine, only to get dash lights to respond.

_ Count the number of times the check engine lamp flashes, pause, and flashes again. First set of flashes is first digit, second digit comes after the pause.

codes and description of trouble are as follows:

11- Timing belt skipped 1 tooth or more from initial learned value; Intermittent loss of either camshaft or crankshaft position sensor. No crank reference signal detected during engine cranking

12- Direct battery input to PCM was disconnected within the last 50 key-on cycles

13- No change in manifold absolute pressure (MAP) from start to run

14- Manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor voltage out of range

15- No vehicle speed sensor signal

17- Closed loop temp not reached or engine cold too long

21- 02 sensor problem (oxygen sensor), upstream or downstream

22- Engine coolant temp sensor out of range

23- Intake air temp sensor out of range

24- Throttle position sensor (TPS) out of range, or disagrees with MAP

25- Idle air control motor circuits problem, target idle not reached(+/- 200), vacuum leak found

    27- Injector control circuit problem

31- Evaporator purge flow monitor failure or evaporator solenoid circuit problem

32- Exhaust gas recirculating (EGR) system failure or solenoid circuit problem

33- A/C clutch relay circuit problem

34- Speed control solenoid circuits problem

35- Radiator fan control relay circuit problem

37- Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit or park/neutral switch failure

41- Generator field not switching properly

42- Fuel pump relay control circuit problem Auto shutdown (ASD) relay control circuit problem No ASD relay output voltage at PCM Fuel level sending unit - volts out of range Fuel level sending unit - no change over miles

    43- Multiple/ single cylinder misfire

44- Battery temp sensor volts out of range

46- Charging system voltage too high

47- Charging system voltage too low

    51- Fuel system lean

    52- Fuel system rich

    53- Internal controller failure

54- No cam signal at PCM

55- End of error messages (If you get this only, no errors were found)

62- PCM failure - SRI mile not stored

63- PCM failure - EEPROM write denied

    64- Catalytic converter efficiency failure

    65- Power steering switch failure

  6. as you can see theres a whole list of things that can cause it don't go buying parts though until you know for sure what it is,have auto zone scan it for free then you,ll know what set the light to come on,good luck.

  7. this means your ecu has detected a fault.you need 2 carry it 2 a shop so they can connect a scanner 2 find the problem

  8. Nice I just had this happen on my 03 neon. Sometimes does it feel like it looses a little power? on mine it would run great however the Battery was low. So check your Battery I bet it needs charged and then the light should go off. If not take it in and get a Diognostic test on it.
