Question:

Check File System On C:? [enabling the scan]?

This is a continuation of my other question.

I have an HP pavilion. whenever I started up my computer, it used to do a "check file system on c:" scan. well it turns out there was nothing wrong with the drive. But anyway, one of the HP techs somehow either disabled the checking of file system c or just stopped it from coming up everytime i started up the computer. Of course, being an HP tech, this wasnt what i asked her to do. They're all idiots.

Anyways, does anyone know how to reenable the scan? or even disable? i just need to know how to get there. I remember going to some file where there was an asterisk and I typed stuff before the asterisk to disable/stop the scan. I would like to reenable it so that way if there is ever a problem again with my hard drive the scan will come up so I know there's some sort of problem. What im trying to say is im not saying i want the scan to be there everytime i turn the computer on, like before, I just want it to be reenabled to if there is a problem then it will come up so i KNOW there is a problem.

I tried to tell this to an HP tech but as usual he didnt understand what I was saying b/c i was talking to some guy from bangladesh as usual.

So if you could tell me where to go on my comp to enable the scan, or disable it...i know how to enable it just not where to go. MMKAY thanks.

  1. Actually your machine is correctly configured. A normal PC does NOT try to run a scan of C: every time that you have to abort.

If you want to manually cause a scan of any drive -- right-click the drive letter in Windows Explorer. Select Properties then the Tools tab. Ther you will see the option to scan disk, defragment etc.

Otherwise Windows should only pop up a scan C: at boot time after  detection of an actual file system error or after a critical system crash.
