Check bags at airport?

My family and I are going to San Diego on wed. from DFW on American Airlines. Since we bought our ticket in April, we get to check the first bag free and the second cost $25. I was wondering if you bought individual tickets for your famliy, does that mean each persons first bag is free, or the whole family's first bag?

Actually if you brought your ticket in April, you will not be charged even for your 2nd bag. That went into effect for passengers who purchased their tickets after 5/12

Each person with a ticket is entitled to one checked bag NO fee. If you have 4 tickets, 4 bags checked no fee. This applies if you purchased your ticket prior to June 15th. If tickets were purchased after June 15th you pay $30 RT for one bag checked.
