I just got the car and have put about 200 miles on it express way and city and seems to drive great and have no problems except for these lights that occasionally come on. I first got the car and took it on the express way and noticed the "check engine" light, "abs" light, and "trac off" light came on. So i took it home to run a diagnostic and the couldnt because as soon as i turned the car off the lights went out and wouldnt come back on. Then I'm turning around in the car and all three lights pop on again, take it back home turn it off, lights wouldnt come back on. So I drove it for about 10 miles pretty hard trying to get them to turn back on if something was wrong, i spinned the tires a few times traction does kick in and work properly. Does anybody know what these three lights could be coming on for and not staying on??? Possibly bad sensors? If so how would i find out which ones if i cant run the diagnostic?

  1. this is a very comman problem for gm cars. its your speed sensor. which means you have to replace the whole wheel bearing.

    good luck

  2. wheel speed sensors in your wheel bearings are shot, i had the same problem with my 04 grand am. you have to replace the entire wheel bearing assembly, dealership cost around 700 bucks.

  3. I want to add that corrosion in the wiring to the wheel speed sensors have been known to cause this. Since the problem is intermittent, it sounds more like the wires than the sensor.

  4. FIrst off it can be scanned for diagnostic trouble codes, which will help with the diagnostic problem. Unfortunately, without these codes, it is a real guessing game as there are many variables, sensors, wires and so forth in the system, it could be as simple as a broken wire, or as complex as a control module. This is a noted problem on SOME GM vehicles NOT ALL. If you can get these codes for me I may be able to help you with this problem. Feel free to contact me at greasemonkey2824@yahoo.com.

P.S. Reason for lights coming on and off could be a wire shorting and not shorting out depending on the movement of the car while you are driving.
