Check engine light?

Alright so this is a total mystery!

I was just gone for 2 weeks on a trip out west and before I left my car was running just fine. I got back today and fired her up and she ran just like before but then the check engine light came on!

I looked over everything and I couldn't find anything that looked out of the ordinary. The only thing thats wrong with my car is that it does have a problem with the exhaust rattling and I think there is a leak up by the catalytic converters.

I doubt the catalytic converters are bad though, since they look and pretty new and I'm sure they were replaced by the previous owner.

Its a '99 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport with 73K miles if that helps. It's a manual aswell.

  1. When was ur last tune-up? Oil change? Trans fluid change? All of these can trigger the check engine light.

  2. I to had that problem with my four banger Toyota and I by past the dealer and took it to Wall-mart and they read my manual and fix it for free

  3. do you have an auto zone near you? you can take it there and they can hook it up to the computer and tell you what is wrong for free.
