Question:

Check my Japanese please (a few short lines)?

Unfortunately, I have to say a few words in front of the new school I'm working at. So, I'd rather not sound stupid in front of 700 people. If someone could check my Japanese below, I'd appreciate it.

English:

Good morning, my name is Ben Nielson. It's nice to meet you.

I am 26 years old. One year ago, I came to Japan from America. Now, I live in Iizuka city. Before that, I lived in Wakayama prefecture. If you see me, please say "Hello." Thank you very much.

日本語:

おはようございます。私の名前はBen Nielsonです。 一年間前日本にア...

That's all...seriously, even small mistakes please correct. I want it to be simple and not crazy above my level, so don't change much of the meaning or anything.

Thanks!

  1. Good morning. My name is Ben Nielson, but call me Ben. It's nice to meet you. I am 26 years old. One year ago, I came to Japan from America. Now, I live in Iizuka city. Before that, I lived in Wakayama prefecture. If you see me, please say "Hello." Thank you very much

    おはようございます。はじめまして。 私は Ben Nielson です。 Ben と呼んでください。 私は26歳です。 一年ほど前にアメリカから (日本に)*来ました。 現在、飯塚市に住んでいます。その前は 和歌山県にいました。 私をどこかで見かけたら、hello と声をかけて下さい。 よろしくお願いします。 (ありがとうございます。)*

    * You may omit these.

  2. You would sound more impressive if you take out the stiff formality of some of your introductions.

    For example, it's better to say Ben Nielson です. rather than the long 私の名前は which no one uses nowadays, anyway :)

    The rest is good, except the last line isn't translated as "If you see me, please say 'Hello.'". It says "Thank you, nice to meet you."

    If you want to go for a rather informal and literal "If you see me, please say hello," : どこかで会えば、 ”Hello"って言ってください!”
