1. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a pastel palette of "grape mist" (# 6548) and "Rose colored" (# 6303) would be a great color choice.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

  2. I think painting two walls checkered is toooo much work! I think you should paint the one wall that you see right when you walk in checkered, and paint the other three a solid color. Is this in your bedroom? I would put your bed on the checkerboard wall. What color is your decor? Pick a color from your bedding or whatever to paint the rest of the room! Red is a hard color to paint, it takes lots of coats to make it look even and smooth. I'd go with yellow if those are the choices!

click here and read about Heather's room, they did a checkerboard wall with foam board they cut into squares which would be way easier than taping off all the lines on the wall!

these people painted the wall a solid color and then just did checkered squares using polyurethane which is way awesome because it's checkered dull and shiny instead of colors!

  3. Its kind of hard to give you the advise when I don't know what color the checkered walls is. Is it black and white checker? Then I think red would be the best. But you also have to look at the color of the furniture, the rug and stuff like that.
