Checking account whats the min. amount of money you need?

I want to open a checking account but I don't know how much money I have to have to get one.

Also does it cost anything?

Many banks offer free checking accounts (i.e. - no minimums and no monthly fees). Call around to a few banks in your area and see who has such a deal.

I think a majority of banks require at least a $ 50.00 deposit to open, but you do not have to maintain any minimum balance, plus it is free. The best checking accounts are for students and senior citizens.
