I was at a Cheddars Restaurant over the weekend and the waitress told us she wasn't allowed to say your Welcome when someone says thank you. She said that once one of the waitress said it scarcastic and now they aren't allowed to say it. What would you do?

  1. You should probably have checked that story with another waitress or the manager. It may be that they have been cautioned about their tone when saying it, or it may be that they were told to find some other equivalent phrase to use, but I find it hard to believe in ANY service industry that deals with customers that a manager would tell any employee to not use common courtesy phrases such as "You're welcome".

And IF it was true, they should still find another term or phrase to use to acknowledge the fact that you have spoken to them. I grew up going to truck stops and little greasy spoon diners, so I have always been kind of partial to "That's okay sugar" or "Thats fine hon'...". They just sound kind of down home-ey and friendly if you ask me...

  2. i would say your welcome anyways cause i was always brought up to be polite and the costumer comes first

  3. That is rediculous and poor management.  I know because I have served at Red Lobster for two years while finishing up my Bachelors Degree.  We (at RL), have tons of quips we have to say like, "I promise to take excellent care of you today," emphasizing the word promise.  Even though one server said, "your welcome," sarcastically that means that the whole restaraunt can't act properly any longer????  WHAT????????  If you can't say your welcome they should at least say something along the lines of "my pleasure."  I wish you would have asked a manager about the situation.  Very interesting question though.

  4. Boy, thats just strange not to mention bad business. I would just say it anyway because thats what paying customers want to hear. I would call up management and ask them if that is for real and if so then I would complain.

  5. I would consider it rude to not get a response after I said "Thank You".  It makes no business or common sense to not be nice to your customers.   If a waitperson was counseled not to say it, it should have been to not say it sarcastically.

  6. i would circulate this thru out the email world, and if they caint be nice back then they need to shut there doors, and by all means leave a penny tip and explain to them why, being rude in the selling buisness is a no no period, plus i never have liked there food anyway so no loss there

  7. if it true STOP going to those restaurants chain wide for every one
