Question:

Cheek swelling after wisdom tooth removal - what should I expect?

I had my wisdom teeth removed this morning, and I've been icing my cheeks every half hour. The swelling isn't too bad.

I'm worried that the swelling will get worse tomorrow, but I can't find any information on this. Can anyone point me to a site with some data?

I'm really hoping that this is as bad as the swelling gets!

  1. Swelling is normal.  For some the swelling is worse than for others.  If it does get worse, then contact your dentist.  There is medication that will help with the swelling; ibuprofen (advil) is one of them.  You can take some to see if it helps.

  2. i just had all 4 of mine out yesterday and the soreness is already going away.  As long as you keep icing it then the swelling should not get any worse.  remember not to eat any solid foods and try not to cough, spit, or drink from a straw or you could get dry socket, which i heard is really really bad.

good luck and your pretty cute by the way.

  3. You should be good mine was swollen for a day or two.ice your cheek and make sure you don't sleep on the side where your tooth was pulled also make sure your doc prescribed some good meds for the pain

  4. It's different for everybody, so there is no definite answer to how bad your swelling will get. Just keep icing it on a regular schedule and it will help. For me, I had no swelling at all. The worst days are supposedly the third to fifth days. So if you have minor swelling now, it may worsen over the next few days, or it may not.
