Cheeky Mover has all the moves in A6 victory at Nottingham
It was another great day at the races at the Nottingham Greyhound Stadium in Nottingham. Racing fans were not left disappointed by Tuesday’s 12-race card, which featured some great 500m races.
The day began with the Betfred.com Stakes, an A6 race that was held at 11:03. Foggy Farran was chosen as the 5-2 favourite by the odds makers before the race. However, he got lost in theproverbial fog, and wound up in third place. This allowed Cheeky Mover (4-1) to move into the top spot and win the race in 31.66. Coming out of trap one, Cheeky Mover led second, and never looked back.
Placing second was Toosey Spirit (4-1), who had a clear run, and finished a shoulder behind Cheeky Mover. His time of 31.66 matched that of the leader. The third-place finisher was favourite Foggy Farran, who finished in 32.02, behind second place by 4½ lengths. Had Foggy Farran not crowded third, he might have won this race.
Blue Bullseye (9-2) failed to hit the target today, as he finished in fourth. He was 1 ½ lengths behind third place with a time of 32.14. Windgap Raphael (3-1) lost of the some wind in his sails, and ended up in fifth place. His finish of 32.34 was 2½ lengths behind Blue Bullseye.
Finishing the race in the sixth and final position was Swift Adel (7-2), who finished a head’s length behind fifth place in 32.36, despite crowding third.
The 11:19 A7 race featured three co-favourites in Tullovin Magic, Beechwood Pirate, and Salacres Lesolle. Each dog carried identical 3-1 odds into this race, but only one of them emerged victorious. That honour went to Tullovin Magic, whose 31.99 finish guaranteed him the win. He came out of trap four and ran a great race, leading near the finish line.
Only ¾ of a length separated first place from second. Morgans Mick (4-1) held an early pace, and led first near the line. He wound up completing the race in 32.05 to lock up second place. Third place went to Beechwood Blubel (7-1), whose 32.06 finish was just a head behind Morgans Mick.
Beechwood Pirate’s attempts at claiming the first-place booty were foiled with a fourth-place finish in 32.20. This put him 1¾ lengths behind third place. Salacres Lesolle took fifth in 32.24, a ½ length behind fellow co-favourite Beechwood Pirate.
Sixth place went to Derrane Maggie, who was 3½ lengths behind the fifth-place finisher. She crowded third, and finished the race with a time of 32.52.
Steadys Choice was a steady choice to win the A5 race at 11:34, and win it he did in excellent fashion. He was billed as the 2-1 favourite pre-race, and his victory in 31.39 did not disappoint racing fans. He held an early pace out of trap one, and eventually led first.
The number two spot was claimed by Oneco Miriam (6-1), who took the position by a shoulder with a time of 31.39. Behind her by a neck was Alicias Boy (3-1), who completed the race in third with a 31.42 finish.
Berrys Magic (9-2) tried to cast a spell on the rest of the pack in order to win, but his efforts were rendered futile with a fourth-place finish in 31.54. This placed him 1½ lengths behind the third position.
Toad (4-1) leapt into fifth place, 1¾ lengths behind Berrys Magic with a time of 31.68. Last place went to Salacres Lattlay (5-1), who crowded third, and finished the race in 32.22, a big 6¾ lengths behind fifth place.
The fun and excitement at Nottingham Greyhound Stadium continue on Friday 3 September with a big 15-race card. The first race of the night begins at 18:28.
