  3. Let's see

    SMILE.. a lot.

Be really stiff and hit your motions  hard and stiff.

    Yell reallly loud.

Have good form in your jumps (toe touch, pike, left and right hurdles)

  4. Spriting and smiling are really important. I'd almost say they're as important as skill. I've watched some of very talented cheerleaders not make a squad because they didn't smile at they're tryout. Never stop smiling, especially if you mess up. If you do mess up, wait a beat and catch up, if you're in a group and if you're by yourself, go with the flow of your motions until you get back on track. If the judges see you upset because you made a mistake, they'll dock major points. Yell from your diaphragm. A good way to practice that is by laying on your stomach and grabbing your shins and holding them. Once in that position, yell your cheer. If you're not bouncing, you're not yelling from your diaphragm. If possible, you should also try to make yourself stand out. Wear a really cute ribbon and fix your hair. Presentation is everything. That said, I'm not going to lie. Skill is also important. Stretch and work your jumps on a trampoline everyday. Buy some ankle weights and do t-kicks with them on. If you can't tumble, enroll in a tumbling class to improve your skills. If you make the squad, you will be expected to improve throughout the year and tumbling classes will help you do that.

  5. okay, from high school level cheerleading and on, the first thing that they will have you do is called spiriting.  basically, they have you jump and cheer alot, and freestyling cheers.  you would use spiriting at a game where you were cheering when you ran onto the court/field with your team.  a basic spiriting cheer would be yelling like "go team!  come on (your school's name)!"  spiriting is used to encourage your team before you have time to organize a cheer.  one of the huge things to remember is NOT to say "woo", like "come on team!  woo!"  "woo" is a huge no, no!  NEVER say woo!  it is tacky and spiritless, and if you say it will most likely hurt your chances!  they will also ask you if you can do any gymnastics, but it's okay if you can't.  they will probably test your flexibility, and ask you to do a few cheers.  the most important thing about your cheers is to ENJOY them.  even if you don't enjoy them, LOOK like you enjoy them.  the best way to support your team is to enjoy doing it and throw yourself totally into your cheers.  remember to have fun and good luck!
