Question:

Cheerleader by september?

i was a former cheerleader in middle school but quit.

im now going to be a sophmore and would like to join cheering again.

since i was a cheerleader before, im still good with the motion and dance portions of it, i still remember stunting (though there is no way for me to practice without a stunt group) but the main thing i need to work on is my jumps and learning ATLEAST a cartwheel.

the season starts in september. id like to be fairly average by this time.

can anyone give me a lotttt of advice on how to get really good by that time. maybe some specific drills and exercises that will help me improve with my jumps. the hardest thing about my jumps is that my left leg doesnt want to really go up, no matter how hard i push for it too.

help please?

thank you in advance!

  1. My advice is just keep trying if you fail, and to do a cart wheel idk how to show you but just run real hard and keep your hands straight the whole time and just spin on your hands. is there any way you could take gymnastics at all?  Because that will help! Just be real smiley and cheery but the most important thing is to have confidence in your self and remember everything happens for a reason. ...lol :]

  2. well sounds like you want advice on jumps. and boy i can help you. :)

    1) find a trampoline. and just pratice every jump and use alot of power. try to rotate your legs out on the toe touch. :)

    2) get super cheesy and "OMG I'M A CHEERLEADER!" and do everything SUPER TIGHT. from motions to jumps...exaggerate!!! exaggerate!!! exaggerate!!! you should be so tight your muscles hurt. :) its good pratice.

and these are some jump exercises you might find helpful. :)

    1) tuck jumps or stamina jumps. hold your arms out in a really tight-T. and jump up and down about 10 times. try bringing your knees into your chest without bending forwards.

you can try different arm motions that you'd use for jumps if you like but use the T since its the most common and works both sides and requires balance.

    2) try on kicks. like dancer like kicks they use in jazz...i can't really explain them any better. but hold your arms slightly in front of you. and kick really hard. and kick so its in front of your foot. it doesn't matter if you can kick your hand at first. just do your best. switch legs and do about 10 on each. then switch back and forth.

    3) pike/candle stick jumps. do the same as above but kick your legs out in front. do left, then right, then alternate.

and just pratice your jumps as much as you can. it sounds like your on a sideline team and when i was on sideline it didn't really matter anyways. but just do your best and you'll make it. :)

    good luck!!!

p.s. cartwheels ...pratice makes perfect. and is something you just have to do. REMEMBER: its hands up.R hand, Lhand, Rfoot,L foot. maybe take a tumbling class? just a bigginer class. :) sometimes you can find a class thats just for cheerleaders. good luck again!

  3. Well, first of all, you need to practice practice practice!!! Cause practice makes perfect - of course. And also  make sure you stretch and condition your muscles. Here are some helpful excercizes:

    1) Straddle Stretch every day for at least 30 seconds  on each leg

    2) Squats to help improve stomach muscles for jumps

3)Leg lifts to help improve leg muscles for jumps

    4) A tiny bit of lifting just a couple lbs to condition your arm muscles helps alot with tumbling and pushing yourself off the ground.

I can't really help you with tumbling other wise though, you'll have to just ask a friend. Hope I could help!

  4. IDK if this will help but.. ill tell you the drills my varsity cheerleading team does everyday in practice (for drills). We keep trying to we do 10 perfect toe touches and then we do the same thing with each leg in spirts. We do 20 kicks for dills then though practice we do 10 kicks off in on. We have to do split drills (practice them) so are legs will get higher in our jumps. Then we do simple arm motions really really tight arm motions lol. Theres others but really hard to x.plain.

You can look it up on google or something in that might help better..

    <hope that helps>
