  1. you'll find that a nice muffin basket will go along way to improving your chances

  2. It definitely depends on the squad. Some squads are heavy in tumbling and stunting, and if you are trying to get into a squad like that they will look at your gymnastic ability. Other squads, like mine, don't do much stunting and instead looks for someone who is loud, has a great smile, and can memorize a lot of cheers!

I'd say that almost all squads do jumps, at least. Toe touches and pikes being the most popular, although pikes are very difficult! Being able to do high kicks or full splits are also a positive thing.

If you can, watch the squad and get a feel for their type of cheer.

Bring whatever you have to the table and don't hold anything back!

  3. Well if you have gymnast ability then definatly show it off. If you can do the tricks the coach would llooove that. But they are looking for a big smile, a clear, and hearty voice, and overall happy/excited presence. If I were you I would practice my split jumps (jumping straigt off the ground, doing the splits while reaching your hands t your feet and landing again). I sucked but they just put me in the back haha. I was also a support girl, so it didnt matter if i wasnt 90 pounds and couldnt be thrown into the air.

Add: Also, when the cheerleaders are doing they cheers, they like to see controled but sharp movements, dont be flimsy with your arms and movements.

  4. I believe that it varies from school to school depending on how much competing your school does. My school kinda focused on all three plus dance ability. Confidence helps sooo much too.
