im going to college in january and ive never cheered before but i would like to do something new and do cheerleading in college. i dance so the dancing aspect wont be a problem for me but all of the other things that involve flexibility im not really to good at. i know i have to stretch but im just not sure if im doing it right so i figured i should take some cheerleading classes. only thing is that i would be in a beginners class and im 17 i dont wanna be there with a bunch of kids. Does anyone know of any gyms in NYC that give cheerleading classes for teens.

also i am interested in being a flyer once i get the hang of everything. im 5ft 3inches and weigh 130 pounds but i plan on getting in shape and building some muscle. Can i be a flyer

and last but not least does anyone kno anything about the University of New Haven cheerleaders like are they good are they bad are they ok.

has anyone ever seen them perform?

  1. Well to be a flyer, most college flyers are average of 115 pounds. The flyers are also normally super flexible. Most collegiate flyers to need to be able to do these body positions (Cupie, Liberty, Heel Stretch, Bow and Arrow, Aerobesque, Scale, Scorpion) and full down and double down. You will also need to learn how to do full arounds, full-ups, rewinds, etc.

Most cheerleading teams require standing back tucks. So you need to work on tumbling (back handsprings, standing tucks, running tumbling).

Motions always need to be sharp and tight. You need to yell the cheers loud and always smile.

I dont know much about the University of New Haven cheerleaders.

Just google "nyc cheer gyms" and sign up for cheer classes, tumble classes, and stunt classes.

    GOOD LUCK!!

Also, get in contact with the coach at New Haven and ask about the requirements for the team and what most of the girls have skill wise!
