I need advice from cheerleaders A.S.A.P!!!!!!!! My tryouts are in 3 days and i have already started going to clinic for it but last night i bruised my tailbone really bad and in the process lost my ability to do good jumps and tumbling combined they count for 20% of the score. Do i have any chance of making it cuz i can do everything else... I am also new to cheerleading so any advice ( from cheerleaders!) would be awesome.

  1. It doesnt mean you wont make it, just work hard to improve everything else. When you do your jumps (even though you say they might be bad) try to work on your form, keep your chest up and make sure you dont bend your wrists, and point your toes. Those little things are very important, not just for try-outs for the rest of your cheer career.

Also, even though you say you've bruised your tailbone (no offense to you) but suck it up. =D, i've pulled all the ligiments in my arm as well as sprained my wrists and i went along to BASE, even though it hurt like heck. Just try your hardest to push through it. Because you WILL be injured in cheerleading no doubt. And i know you've seen cheerleaders with braces and more and its not exactly a walk in the park but they do what they have to do no problem.

Good luck at try-outs. Just work on execution if you really cant do the highest skills you can. And im sure you should do fine if you're really confident.

  2. Don't worry about your tailbone everything will be okay with that, i did that before and sucked it up and everything was okay. With the jumps try not over doing and work on other things that need improving, just work on them little by little and they will come back to you. Your probally just scared. It might not seem like you are but your body is probally saying yes and your brain is saying hex no!! GOOD LUCK you will do great!!

  3. just tell your coach that your tail bone is really bruise so you can perform at your best. they will understand because injuries are so common in cheerleading. and coaches dont want you to hurt your self farther.

  4. The number one thing that coaches look for is that you are coachable and able to learnd and improve.  So make sure they see how hard you are trying.  If your tailbone is hurting, I would say you still need to tumble and jump to the best of your ability and push through the pain as much as possible.  You might want to heat it before and ice it after (not the other way around).  Make sure that everything else (voice, motions, chants, cheers, facials, stunts) are on point in order to raise your score as much as possible.  It is also really important to show enthusiasm and a great attitude because coaches want good kids on their team.

    Good luck!

  5. Have the coaches seen you do any jumps or tumbling yet? If they have, they could make an acception. Or if you have any videos of you doing gymnastics or cheerleading, you can show it to them. You could still have a good chance of making it. Prove to them that even though you bruised your tailbone you still really want to do it. And excel in the other parts of tryouts, like dances and cheers. Do your best, and be confident. Dont try to do anything that could hurt your tail bone even more just to impress them. Deal with the fact that its hurt, and you can only perform a limited amount of things. Good luck!
