  1. Uhm not sure I understand here,I havent beenblocked by anyone. Are you trying to make friends on here or something.?

  2. Control issues and no self-control.

Did he really block you? What a dork!

  3. Get over it lol, the guy is extremely bored.

  4. Language is one of the most powerful things we have. Language defines reality.

    Language enables understanding

    Language expresses philosophical ideals.

Here's an easy example. In english, we say "I like (x)," x being a thing, person, place, etc.

In spanish, you say "me gusta (x)." The LITERAL translation being "x is good for me."

The difference is subtle, but think of the philosophical ramifications. Like comes from the same root idea, to be pleased, but in english, we are the active agent. "I like X" says that the person speaking is the focal point, that the thing is secondary in serving to the pleasure of the person. In spanish, the difference in the way the words are placed shows a greater comprehension of the thing as having an effect on the person. Not a passive existence for the benefit of the speaker, but actively providing this pleasure of it's own volition.

Think about how different these ideas can seem. Talk about a woman you know. "I like Beth." as opposed to the phrase "Beth is pleasing to me." To expand on the basic ideas, in english, I'm doing Beth a favor, I'm liking her, I'm placing my mark of approval on her, as if I were the most important being. In spanish, she is pleasing to me, as in she actively does something which interacts with me in a positive manner. Much greater emphasis on the other.

  5. O.k .. sorry thing .. I really hope you don't mind me jumping in here.. BUT ,,,,,

    I need to address BERT.

really what an assine comment you made.. you come to the conclusion that thing is being condescending and smartars$ed because she signs off with Cheers and a smiley face ?????????

really... you must be relatively new to the internet,,,, because MOST people will be well aware that tone can not be established easily by text alone...and that often it is in the reader's perception that the mistake is made.

As I reader I might percieve something I am reading is being written as sarcasm .. when in fact it is not intended at all as being sarcastic.....

THING has signed off with Cheers and a smiley face more often than not .. and if it bothers anybody FOR PETE'S SAKE GET A BLOODY LIFE.. cos your's must be incredibly sad that you get upset with how somebody YOU DON'T know signs off....

have a nice day and would you like fries with that

( now that was being smartarsed)

OK NOW back to a part of thing's q

: What would that say about their anger management and depth of character in real life

I would say that they must have serious issues that they CAN'T handle in their real life and thus need to behave in such ridiculous ways online.. I would HATE to live near them or be related to them. They most likely have a poor sense of self responsibility and that they blame many others for their own failings.

  6. I question how many people actually get mad on this forum at all, its just an entertainment point on the net for people to stir the pot and watch for a reaction.

  7. Promise you won't stop with your characteristic signoff.

Trolls scream so satisfyingly when you zing 'em.  That alone should make it worthwhile.  And being blocked by a blockhead is an honor.

  8. That is VERY bizarre.  However, being an American married to a Brit and now living in the UK, I can and do see simple language differences causing discord.

Take the word "c*nt".  In the UK, amongst men who are friends it's perfectly acceptable for them to call each other "c*nts" in an informal, friendly way.  In the US, there is absolutely NO acceptable time or place to use the word.  If you use it, you are being intentionally offensive.

Or, less dangerously, the word "jumper".  In the UK it's a sweater.  In the US it's a type of dress.  An American man would be pretty embarrassed if someone described him as wearing a jumper.

Or "pants".  In the US, those are trousers.  In the UK, they're underwear.  As another Yankee living in Britain told me, "Never, ever say 'sweatpants'."

    But "cheers"?

Bert, "Cheers" is the British equivalent of "Have a nice day".  There's nothing patronising or offensive about it in any way whatsoever.  I can't tell you not to be irritated by something, but irritation at a common, friendly word seems to be something that YOU need to change, not the millions of people who use it daily.

  9. i dunno y anyone would block u or anyone else for that matter unless they're particularly screwed in the head or u were exceptionally rude.... which it is i dunno.... but as far as i'm concerned this forum is purely to ask  questions of people from all walks of life to see if you can get an objective point of view. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  for me, if i can give a person my point of view on the matter maybe it's a different way of looking at things for them. i think blocking someone for expressing their opinion, is just ridiculous . so much for free speech

  10. I am not sure how someone gets blocked on this YA.... Do you mean a specific person blocked you from answering his questions?

Tha just shows that they are irritated by you, big time! Which simply means that you have outsmarted them and they can't handle it!

Why anyone would be irritated by you signing off with a 'cheers :-)'  beats me, but you know these guys.... They are the type that whinge and moan and pick on every little thing you do or say no matter what! They must be utterly miserable!

    Cheers :-)

  11. I agree with just curious; "Most likely they are just angry in general and seeing the phrase just reminds them of how unhappy they are."

We know they are very bitter sad small men who can't get past their own failures and frustrations in their relationships and their lives. And they need someone else to blame  instead of themselves.

It's important to remember that no one asked them here. They chose to go to an online place where women gather and obsessively troll, spew their hatred, and try to bully women here and in email.

They do it because they want to and because they Can. If we were gathered in a moderated forum or in real life they would be removed and they know it.

Their behaviour here says it all about their character and maturity.

    Cheers  :)

  12. some people are just anal!

  13. Jenny, that was just a perfect answer! ;-)

Well, well...first of all "Bert" seems like  still another reincarnation of? (lol)

Hey, it is just another way of bullying. IF someone can't attack you with ideas, they will look for something else. What an ABSURD thing to get bothered about: a smiley, and as Jenny said, it is the smiley that gives the tone of voice. I personally like it, it is YOUR distinctive signature.

My advice, just ignore. In the past I was attacked, because I used a lot of (lol), although I tend to smile and laugh a lot in real life. But someone, was bothered about it! (lol)...they will find something, always something to bully about!

Someone that does this, seems extremely bored, and perhaps it is the ONLY way of attracting attention. Unfortunately, you just gave him this attention he craved for ;-)

    :-)

  14. I hear that a lot of people (or should I say trolls) on this board get their accounts suspended. So the level 1 people could very well be the same haters from before.

I've seen a few people who use a tag just so they can vote for that answer later on (and I assume this because some of their answers are very horrible or very similar to everyone else's but they always have at least one vote). Maybe they think that you are attempting the same?

Most likely they are just angry in general and seeing the phrase just reminds them of how unhappy they are.

I think it got deleted because it's not showing up in my answers either.

  15. Blocking is a bizarre tool, but useful in some mediums. I just figured out how you can tell someone is blocking you! I'm slow.

If he's angered by your sign off, he obviously has mental issues. I know a guy who can't stand watching someone eat a cracker salt-side-down. That's neurotic. So is having an issue with "cheers :-)"

Whatever lovey he probably just can't stand up to your debate and rather than admit that, blames your sign off. Who is it, anyway? Nutjob!
