Cheetahs secure their second win in Super xv as they defeat Brumbies at Bloemfontein - Rugby
Cheetahs gained their second win in the Super xv as they defeated the Brumbies at Free State Stadium, Bloemfontein on Friday, April 29. Brumbies outscored the hosts
by five tries to four. However, it was Cheetahs who ended on the winning side, thanks to the good attacking rugby they played for a full 80 minutes of the game.
Both teams have won the try bonus point for scoring four or more tries in the match. This is the Brumbies seventh lose of the last nine games they have played so far
in the Super Rugby 2011 championship. The game was played at a relatively fast pace as both teams kept the scoreboard ticking throughout the match. The teams piled up a total of 83 points during the match.
Cheetahs started the match strongly as they control both ball and territory possession and controlled the game unilaterally during the first 20 minutes of the game.
During this time, they scored 25 points and denied visitors from scoring any points.
Cheetahs full back Riaan Viljoen scored the drop goal during the first minute of the game followed by Cheetahs prop Coenraad Oosthuizen 3rd minute try. Cheetahs
failed to score the conversion but score again through their scrum half Sarel Pretorius’s eighth minute try. Sias Ebersohn scored on the following conversion. Cheetahs prop WP Nel scored Cheetahs third try during the 11th minute of the game to follow

Riaan Viljoen scored on his second penalty goal to take the scorecard reading 25 – 0 in the 19th minute of the game. Brumbies put their act together and able
to create running spaces. Brumbies put their first points on board as their winger Francis Fainifo scored a try during the 22nd minute of the game followed by Brumbies centre Matt Giteau’s conversion.
Pretorius’s second try during the 26th minute of the game followed by Cheetahs fly half’s conversion again extended their lead to 25 points. Brumbies were
not lying back and scored three in 10 minutes to reduce the lead to just six points courtesy of their prop Ben Alexander, flank Michael Hooper and winger Adam Ashley-Cooper’s 28th, 33rd and 38th minute tries. Matt Giteau scored
two out of three conversions to take the scorecard reading 36 – 26 that remained the same until the end of the first half.
Cheetahs entered the second half with a renewed spirit as they again extended their lead by 12 points courtesy of Sias Ebersohn’s 44th and 45th
minute penalty. Brumbies reduced the lead through Giteau’s 59th minute penalty.
Brumbies suffered a blow as their fly half, Christian Lealiifano, was sin binned for a lifting tackle on Ashley Johnson during the 62nd minute of the game.
Cheetahs capitalised on the penalty awarded as Ebersohn’s scored his third penalty of the game during the 63rd minute of the game.
Brumbies substitute winger, Robbie Coleman, scored a try just after coming on to the field followed by Giteau’s conversion to reduce the lead to just five points.
Brumbies tried their best to overcome the deficit. However, Ebersohn’s 72nd and seventh minute penalty ended their hopes to helpthe Cheetahs achieve a win
after contesting closely the previous two games.
