Chella Choi finishes third at Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012
South Korean Chella Choi, who got off to a solid start at the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012, could not hold her ground against her fellow South Korean So Yeon Ryu and American Angela Stanford in the last two
rounds as she finished tied for the third position after posting an overall 272.
The Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012 was played at Highland Meadows Golf Club, Ohio, with a strong roster featuring most of the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders.
Choi, who stunned her fans and the spectators on the course after making a good start, troubled most of her rivals, but let Ryu and Stanford walk all over her in the final round.
Ryu displayed her best performance at the prestigious tournament as she carded an overall 264 clinching a victory in grand style. In the last round on Sunday, the winner looked completely fired because she
drained nine birdies and no bogey.
Expressing her joy at the end of the tournament, Ryu said that when she saw her name atop the leaderboard, she could not believe her eyes. She said that winning among big names is amazing, and she hopes to
continue her stunning form in the coming events.
The winner said that her interest in the tournament doubled after she came to know that its aim is to raise donations for different charitable entities in the United States. She said that recording a triumph
in such an event is a great honour for her.
“I heard of this tournament supports charity, so I'm really honored to be champion of this great tournament, and thanks for the support from everybody,” Ryu said.
Choi convinced herself after grabbing a lead in the second round that she could keep the momentum going in the final two rounds, but a 70 on the third day took its toll on her overall score.
At the end of the second round, the South Korean golfer said that she liked playing at Meadows, as she has played here before. “I played 2009 and 2010 here. In 2010, I play really good two years. I like the
golf course shape. Yeah, I like the golf course shape”.
Choi tried to come back in contention in the final round and managed to score 69. However, Stanford and Ryu made the most of favourable weather conditions and did what most of their rivals could not do.
