Chella Choi takes second-round lead at Ohio
South Korean Chella Choi looked completely fired up in the second round of the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012, as she shot a 67 to snatch a lead from the first-round leader Pernilla Lindberg of Sweden.
Choi kicked off the round with confidence as she drained a birdie on the very first hole. She then parred the next two holes and shot her second birdie on the par-4 fourth hole.
Choi, who was not among the hot favourite contenders for the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament being played at Highland Meadows Golf Club, Ohio, got off to a solid start in the opening
round despite rain making putting green and fairways look difficult.
The second round also saw the South Korean star display a natural game and make near-perfect shots on most of the holes.
On the back nine on Friday, Choi looked a little under pressure as she missed out on several good chances. She carded bogeys on the par-4 10th and par-4 11th. She then parred the next
hole and sank her fourth birdie on the 13th hole.
Other players who improved their positions on the second day include Japanese Mika Miyazato. Miyazato fired a 68 to tie for the second spot along with South Korean Hee Kyung Seo and Inbee Park.
Pernilla Lindberg, who grabbed the first-round lead in grand style, tumbled to the fifth position after she carded a 71 on the leaderboard.
The weather remained favourable, but strong wind swept through the course intermittently troubling players. Speaking to the media about her second-round performance, Lindberg said that she was pretty confident
after making a good start in the opening round, but could not keep the momentum going on Friday.
“It was pretty tough out there today, quite windy.  Of course, I played really early yesterday and the greens were perfect.  Today you could tell there were 144 girls that had stepped on them,” the Swede said.
“It picked up, the wind, a little bit at the end, made it a little trickier, especially on a few tee shoots especially on doglegs where it's driver or not.  I thought I hung in there and ended up with a few
straight pars, so I'll take it”.
