We continue the player-by-player analysis of Chelsea team in this part. Read http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 here.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678 – 5.5
A player needs to do much more while replacing the fan favourite, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097. While his physical game play suits the Premier League, he doesn’t have the vision or the passing range to truly replace the player he had deposed.
Juan Mata – 7
The only player who can come out of this game with his head held high. Mata has become the focal point of the Blues attack ever since moving to the Premier League. It was no different in this game as most of the Chelsea attacks went through him, however,
he failed to find himself in attacking positions from where he could truly threaten the visitors’ goal.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 – 6
Was asked to lead the lines with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 warming the bench. Made a nuisance of himself in the opposing penalty area, winning and converting the spot-kick. However, he was isolated for long stretches of the game after that, with supply to him being
completely cut off.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Sturridge-c10076 – 4.5
Sturridge was uncharacteristically anonymous for much of the game. His young shoulders are being forced to take the goalscoring responsibility, in presence of more famed teammates, and he let them down today.
Substitutes:
Jose Bosingwa – 5
Though he tried his luck with a speculative shot, Bosingwa was helpless in front of a rampant Villa side. Villas-Boas might need to take a look around in the transfer market to solve Chelsea’s right-back woes.
Frank Lampard – 5
The crowd favourite was thrown in more in hope than anything. Hardly affected the proceedings at the Bridge, summing up his season so far: ineffective.
Fernando Torres – 6
Hit the crossbar soon after coming on to the pitch, giving hope to a gloomy crowd at the Bridge. However, he failed to add to his season’s woeful tally. It must be added that luck clearly is not on the Spaniard’s side.
Manager
Andre Villas-Boas – 5.5
The manager doesn’t have the team of his choice, granted, but his substitutions have hardly been inspiring ever since he took charge of the London club; it wasn’t much different on the night.
