Chelsea's Petr Cech: Carlo Ancelotti not the only one to blame for poor season
Chelsea goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837 said he believed that manager Carlo Ancelotti was not the only one to be blamed for the trophy-less season, and the players shared the blame equally.
This has been Chelsea’s worst season in over 15 years and will be the first time the Blues end up without any silverware ever since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich took over the London club in 2003.
This has led to speculation regarding the Italian’s future at the club, especially after their exit from the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals against Premier League rivals Manchester United. The European Cup was their last shot at claiming a trophy this
season, having been eliminated from the other cup competitions early on in the season.
The Blues are not likely to retain their Premier League crown either; they are currently at third place on the table, eleven points behind league leaders Manchester United. Even though they have a game in hand, it does not seem possible that they can overtake
the Red Devils to win the domestic league. The most they can hope for at this season is a top four finish, guaranteeing them a spot in next seasons Champions League.
While many choose to blame the manager for the club’s slump this season, the Chelsea keeper felt the whole club was to blame. The 28-year-old Czech Republic international admitted it was difficult not being able to retain the double they won last season,
but refused to blame just the manager for the slump. He insisted the whole squad had not performed as well as they should have, the results of which were clear close to the end of the season.
Cech said while speaking to reporters, “We win together, we lose together. We are in the same boat and we try to guide the boat to the harbour as safely as possible. It's disappointing, always; if you are a part of a club and you don't win a trophy all season.
After winning a double last season, everybody thought that we were going to defend the titles.”
The Blues stopper was disappointed with his side having thrown away a perfectly good start to the season and with the result of the Champions League quarter-final. However, he was honest enough to admit that Manchester United had been the better side in
both the legs of the European Cup quarter-final and did indeed deserve to make it through to the next round.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 number one continued, “We had a good start to the season and then the season became difficult but we were doing well in the Champions League until those two games against Man United. I think that we were very unlucky in the first game, but overall
I have to say they won both games so they deserved to go through.”
