Chelsea Chenault dominates Women’s 200m freestyle heats – US Open Swimming Championships
Chelsea Chenault of Terrapins Swim Team dominated the qualification rounds of Women’s 200m freestyle on fourth day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Friday, August 10.
The 17-year-old Chenault faced tough competition from her fellow swimmers throughout the race, but with her unrelenting struggle, she managed to outperform them over the finishing blockade and entered the final round as top contender for gold medal.
Chenault remained slightly ahead of her strongest challenger throughout the discipline and qualified into the final as fastest swimmer with a timing of 1 minute and 59.30 seconds.
Her tremendous pace was followed by Sarah Henry of Aggie Swim Club, who remained only 0.24 seconds apart and finished second in the race with an effort of 1 minute and 59.54 seconds.
Henry was traced by Catherine Breed of Pleasanton Seahawks, who remained more than a body length behind and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 00.80 seconds for third best place.
Fourth finest qualifying spot of the event was secured by Anne Bochmann of Bath ITC, who remained only 0.30 seconds apart and tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.10 seconds.
Bochmann was chased by Jasmine Tosky of Palo Alto Stanford, who was just 0.15 seconds apart and finished fifth in the race by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 01.25 seconds.
The 18-year-old Tosky stayed 0.20 seconds ahead of Megan Romano of Athens Bulldog Swim Club, who occupied sixth fastest qualification spot of the race by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 01.45 seconds.
Subsequently, Romano was chased by Danielle Siverling of Unattached-MA, who was only 0.12 seconds apart and posted a time of 2 minutes and 01.57 seconds for seventh place.
Siverling was followed by Rebecca Mann of Clearwater Aquatics, who managed to secure last qualification spot of the event by posting a time of 2 minutes and 02.00 seconds for eighth position.
Chenault was very excited with her top fastest finish and stated that she would try hard to continue the same in playoff and capture gold medal.
