Chelsea Chenault pockets Women’s 400m freestyle gold: Day one - Santa Clara International Grand Prix
Chelsea A Chenault of Terrapins Swim Team pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on primary day of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix in California on Friday, June 1.
Santa Clara International is the concluding stop of seven-stage 2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series that provides an opportunity to international swimmers to compete with the best of USA before the upcoming 2012 London Games.
The 17-year-old Chenault stunned the aquatic crowd with her blistering form in the 400m discipline as she made her way to the finishing wall for first position with the timing of 4 minutes and 08.95 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Lauren Boyle of New Zealand, who stayed nearly 1.50 seconds slower and reached the finishing end for second position with the timing of 4 minutes and 10.34 seconds.
Similarly, third finest spot of the race was obtained by Andreina D Pinto of Gator Swim Club, who was 2.01 seconds slower and completed the podium by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 12.35 seconds.
In the meantime, the audience enjoyed gruelling efforts of Catherine E Breed of Pleasanton Seahawks, who ended her swim in fourth best place by producing a time of 4 minutes and 17.02 seconds.
Subsequently, the crowd witnessed scintillating form of Lauren Boyle of New Zealand in the Women’s 1500m freestyle. Boyle remained prominently ahead of her strongest opponent and secured gold medal of the discipline with an effort of 16 minutes and 21.73
seconds.
She was followed by Emily A Brunemann of Fast Swim Team-C, who secured second best spot of the distant freestyle event by submitting a time of 16 minutes and 23.36 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Andreina D Pinto of Gator Swim Club, who was 0.80 seconds apart and posted a time of 16 minutes and 24.16 seconds.
Pinto stayed nearly half a minute ahead of Min Zhao of Shanghai Swimming, who finished fourth in the discipline with the timing of 16 minutes and 56.02 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all planned events in Men and Women’s corner.
