English Premier League side Chelsea have signed Patrick Bamford from Championship team Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee on the deadline day of the winter transfer window.
Bamford will be out of contract with Nottingham Forest in the upcoming summer transfer window, which is why the Championship side decided to sell him to the Premier League giants before the youngster left on a free transfer in the summer.
According to the deal, Forest has been bought on the negotiation that includes a sell-on clause. After it became apparent that the forward did not want a renewal of his contract with Nottingham Forest it was decided he would move to Stamford Bridge.
Nottingham Forest disclosed on their official website:
“Bamford's current Forest contract was due to expire this summer and despite being offered the most lucrative contract ever tabled by the Reds for a player of his age, his representatives had indicated he would not re-sign with the club.
He travelled south for talks earlier today after Forest agreed a fee with Chelsea before completing the formalities of his switch to Stamford Bridge.”
Bamford graduated from Nottingham youth academy in 2011, making two appearances for the senior team. He will now be joining the Blues reserve team, having joined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 on a long-term five year deal. He is believed to have been signed for an estimated fee
of 1.5 million pounds.
It was earlier on in an interview that Nottingham Forest Steve Cotterill mentioned that Bamford had been linked with a couple of sides in the winter transfer window. He also went on to mention that the Blues had made a bid for the 18-year-old forward.
Cotterill said in an interview:
“The problem we have is that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrick-c29254 has been offered a couple of contracts now and I am not sure he will sign a new contract at Nottingham Forest.
We are going to have a meeting to decide where that goes. What materialises, we will find out shortly.”
It will be years before Bamford gets a chance to play for the Blues first team and there is a likely chance that he will be loaned out to another club in the summer transfer window so he may be able to get the necessary first team experience.
